Program Description

Amizade – International Service-Learning in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Amizade and West Virginia University offer students service placements and Spanish, History, and Political Science courses that focus on the issues today. Students stay with a Bolivian family while working for a nonprofit organization. The placement will depend on the student’s interests and community consideration. Types of services include working with orphans, teaching English at local schools, spending time with children with disabilities, assisting in a home for elderly individuals, or working on sustainable development initiatives. Students experience Bolivia through service learning, courses, and field trips and excursions throughout this program.

Cochabamba is the third largest city in Bolivia and home to plazas, fountains, churches, and the largest open-air market in the Americas, La Cancha. The Andes Mountain surrounds this bustling city of 400,000 people. The climate is mild and pleasant with warm sunny days, cool nights and little humidity. La Paz is located 240 km northwest.
