Program Description

SAI - Florence University of the Arts in Florence, Italy

Florence University of the Arts (FUA) presents a contemporary and thorough approach to a Liberal Arts education, along with an extensive curriculum in Studio Arts. The program is organized and run by Study Abroad Italy (SAI). With small classes taught by a highly qualified international faculty, every course aims to enhance the social, intercultural and professional experience of each student. FUA combines innovative curriculum and collaborative teaching methods to create a unique, hands-on educational experience. Students have the opportunity to learn with working professionals in the arts, as many of our instructors are critically acclaimed in their fields. Courses at FUA are chosen from the following departments/Colleges: College of Liberal Arts, College of Fine and Visual Arts, College of Life, Science, Environmental Studies and Human Services, College of Business and Economics and College of Science.

FUA is located in the historic center of Florence, and offers students the opportunity to live in the heart of this bustling Renaissance city while experiencing modern Florentine life. Student accommodations are within walking distance of such landmarks as the Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio and the Accademia Museum (site of the David), along with the many other museums and churches in Florence showcasing the most extensive and famous collection of Italian art works found in the world.

Winthrop students are required to take a full-time course load when at FUA. They are also required to be in good academic standing and have already completed at least one year of their program of study. FUA offers a wide range of courses in fine and visual arts, liberal arts, business and economics, and sciences along with interesting and specialized courses, such as book and paper making, jewelry, interior design and industrial design. Although there is no prior language requirement at FUA, all semester students are required to take Italian language as part of their program
