Financial PlanningPersonal Financing for Study AbroadWith advance planning, study abroad is both possible and feasible for Winthrop students. In addition to consulting with the Study Abroad Office and academic departments about the study abroad process, Winthrop students should also plan carefully for the financial obligations associated with studying abroad. Costs vary according to the program a student selects, but in general students should account for tuition, room, meals, flights, passport and visa fees, other transportation needs, books and supplies, application and/or study abroad fees, as well as personal spending money when planning for a semester abroad. Students should begin researching various scholarship and grant opportunities as much as one year to six months in advance of studying abroad. Visit the scholarships portion of this site for more information related to Winthrop and external scholarship opportunities. Sample Cost of AttendanceA sample estimated cost of attendance for each Winthrop Program is provided below to give students an idea of the costs related to a semester abroad. Be sure to review financial information carefully and visit the Office of Financial Aid to determine how best to support a study abroad experience.
